Identity
Who am I?
Who are you?
in a world of too many trends
born at the end of spring
growing old in Indian summer
to die just before Christmasâ
in a world for one
not for two,
where am I supposed to find me?
how can I ever find you?
A tragedy turns into a charade
a vulgar farce;
laughs here and there
to break the ice
thatâs never been broken;
soon silence is heard
in recently crying hearts
tears frozen inside
saved for some nostalgiaâ
stalactites to look up in place
and remember,
stalagmites to pin you in place
and forget;
so cold it is inside your heart
a long lightless grotto
miraculous but just the same
like in everyone elseâs.
Who are you?
Who am I?
The torches we hold
are meant to light the way,
not far before too long
a flame is extinguished
before another is born;
primitive maps are re-drawn
prejudice and the so-called legacy
burned on every page;
our feet have marked the same spots
mistaking enemies for friendsâ
new foes are born every day
we must take up arms,
our knives must be drawn
in the face of someone.
Building gods and kingdoms
forfeiting thrones
carving revolutions
on human flesh
for reasons and causes
freshly broken out like a plague
or reborn like a storm
leaving life like a gameâ
too violent for a pastime,
but nothing better to waste the time
over corpses of brothers and sistersâ
we have been playing this game forever,
soldiers of God vs. minions of Satan
like a game of chess,
yesterday you were playing black
today is my turn.
Who are you?
Who am I?
weâre torn into this speciesâ
huddling together till dawn
when we see the first light,
we start to waste each otherâ
we were never meant to be together.
Who are you?
Who am I?
We are gods on our own
and gods were always meant
to be unique, to be almighty,
to be alone.
